But FIRST, look at my new puppy! Say hello to SHADOW! (gee, that only makes what, 4 dogs now?)
Would you like the whole story? Well, you're gonna get it.
My cousin Carlie and I flew to Phoenix from Houston on Friday, January 5th. We spent the night in the Best Western Inn of Tempe after hanging most of the evening with ryogrande starting out at Denny's for dinner and ending up at an awesome little bar called Monkey Pants. Spencer and I couldn't partake of alcoholic beverages, but I had my fill of tasty Dr. Pepper and awesomely bad jukebox tunes.
We woke up the next morning and took full advantage of the free contintental breakfast, then headed out for the Marquee around 9:45am, because we're cool and we sit at the venue all day long. When we got there we had I don't know, 6-8 people already waiting, including the two girls literally camping, complete with sleeping bags and lawn chairs. (We find out later that these girls have been two the first two shows in California, and will also go to the what turns out to be FAMOUS show in New Mexico on Sunday night - lucky whores). But I digress...Immediately upon arrival, I run into a girl (Cynthia) I'd met at the Panic! show in December, so YAY for out of state concert friends! We hung out all day.
I'm the pregnant girl in the Draco and the Malfoy's tee on the left, the girl in the middle is Cynthia, and my cousin Carlie is the cute ditzy blonde girl on the right.
We hang all day, meet and befriend many, eat cheeseburgers, walk MILES to find places for a pregnant girl to go potty, and make fun of teeny bopper scene girls in line. What else? Oh yeah, the buses are parked just a few meters away from where we're lined up...so we spend much of the day contemplating what exactly the boys might be doing in said buses. We have quite active imaginations. *wink*
We see Korean Tom Cruise running from bus to bus to venue constantly. We see a shirtless Charlie come out repeatedly with Hemmy in tow. Odd little girls run to him and ask "Is that Pete's dog?" After which he gives them the evil eye and deadpans "No." and the girlies run away dejectedly. I laughed a lot that day.
In retrospect, I should have taken a picture of the dejected teenagers walking away from the dog that is "Not Pete's" LMAO. Oh Charlie.
So, we wait around...we get out early entry bracelets and I pick up my Meet and Greet bracelet. Oh, now I remember why I joined OCK. :P
My cousin preordered the CD so that she could meet the band as well. No picture for her, but at least she got to have a tiny bit of face time with the boys.
Here we are waiting on the barrier for the show to begin. Aren't we CUTE? :P
Apparently that's the only pose Carlie knows.
The show overall is AMAZING. Permanent Me wasn't bad. They didn't wow me, but that's alright. Not a bad opening band. I've always been fond of The Early November, so I was looking forward to their set. They were great. They have a lot more energy on stage than I was anticipating, so that's awesome. New Found Glory puts on one helluva show. DUDE, talk about amazing presence and energy on stage. And I was excited by how many of their songs I remembered, considering I haven't really listened to them in a few years.I can sum up my feelings with the following photo:
Talk about up close and personal, Jordan. Yeah, he was all up in our business. ♥
Fall Out Boy. Oh, sweet wonderful sexy entertaining Fall Out Boy. I never get tired of these boys, you know?
I took a gazillion photos during their set...I'll share later. For now, here's a few highlights. (and please forgive the funny light spots and mega amounts of SMOKE! I hate the smoky stages....makes picture-taking an utter nightmare!)
I had the best views of Joe and Patrick. Actually, I was directly in front of Joe...but Patrick was only a camera angle away. I'll show you a few of my favorites.
Heh, he looks like he's talking with his hand. ♥
I LOVE THIS PICTURE!
Pete is a difficult boy to catch. He won't stay still on stage for more than a few seconds.
This is pretty cute though.
Meet & Greet
So they clear the place out and line up all the people who bought presale CDs in one huge line, then the OCKers who won M&G behind them. The CD folks get run through the line quickly, with Charlie wandering around with Hemingway, yelling and everyone and generally attempting to be surly. In this time I get to pet Hemmy repeatedly, which makes me a very happy girl. Gone are all the crazed teenagers, and for this Charlie, the boys in the band, and I are extremely grateful. By this point everyone around me knows that I'm the pregnant girl from Texas...and everyone wants Patrick to rub my tummy. I mean EVERYONE. It's pretty funny, really. All I've wanted from this entire concert experience is for Patrick to touch my tummy. Seriously...but I didn't know if I'd have the guts to ask for it. I just...yeah, I get all fangirly and quiet and who the hell knows what else. I mean DUDE, it's Patrick. Oh, you know what I mean.
So I see the boys sitting at their table. Actually, I see Patrick first, then Andy, then Joe, and Pete is standing at the far end.
(I'll be paraphrasing throughout, because I was too amazed that this was happening to even remember precisely what was said, ok?
Patrick looks up and says "Hi, how are you? I'm Patrick." (dude, like I didn't know this)
Me: Hi, I'm Shonna. I flew here with my cousin from Houston to see your show. Oh yeah, and I'm almost 7 months pregnant with a little boy. His name is Spencer. (I just totally blurted it out, just like that.)
Patrick: Wow, really? That's so cool. (he has this completely amazed/enthralled look on his face)You came a long just to see us. Thanks so much. I can't believe you're pregnant! (he's so sweet, really.)
Me: Well, you weren't having shows any closer, and I really wanted to see you on this tour.
At this point, Andy has tuned in to our conversation.
Andy: Did you say that you're pregnant? (eyes wide, hand slowly inching toward my tummy in my periphery)
ME: Yeah, almost 7 months.
Andy: Wow, really? (And at this point, his hand makes contact with my tummy. I didn't even ASK, he just does it. Completely sprawled across the top-right side, like he's feeling for the baby). I think I totally feel it!
I almost die here from the cute...but it gets better.
Here comes Joe. Joe glances over and sees Andy's hand on my tummy, and he's been listening to us, that much is clear. He reaches over and puts his own hand on the other side of my tummy...so that now my entire pregnant belly is covered by Andy and Joe. I don't even know how to describe this to you. I never did get Patrick to touch my tummy, but this totally makes up for it. TOTALLY.
Joe: Dude, I feel it! I can't believe you're pregnant!
Then Pete notices what's going on, and I realize that I have the full attention of the entire band...much to Charlie's chagrin. This was supposed to be a quick sign your paper and move on kind of thing...and I totally threw a wrench in the operation. I love it.
Pete: (looks up at me searchingly) You're pregnant? Where'd you watch the show? Not from the pit? (keep in mind I still have Andy and Joe trying to feel for a kicking Spencer).
Me: Well, yeah actually. From the barrier, just in front of Joe.
Cue amazed/awed look from Pete. Then he gives me a huge grin and goes to hug me, but Charlie gives him a mean face so he takes my hand instead. I wanted to beat Charlie across the head. But I never hold grudges, so I've forgiven him already. If you could have seen the look on Pete's face, you'd have thought I was his friggin hero or something.
So I get back in line to get my picture taken with the boys. My turn comes up and I hand my camera to some guy (not Charlie, I don't know who). The boys look up and say "Pregnant Girl!". It was too cute, practically in unison even.
Patrick holds his right arm out, so who am I to refuse such an invitation, you tell me? I stand between Patrick and Joe, with my arms snugly around them both. I see Pete leaning over at me and grinning like mad and Patrick is doing the same. Joe, meanwhile spends the entire photo-setup time whispering to me in his adorable lisp to "take care of that baby, you hear? and no more mosh pits, you got it?" I wanted to squish him until the end of time. You can see in the picture that his head is leaning my way...that's because at just the last minute he turned his head away from advising me to grin for the camera. Oh Joe.
So I untangle myself reluctantly and Joe takes one more opportunity to holler "take care of that baby!" as I'm being ushered out the side door.
ETA: I can't believe I forgot to put the picture here! SHEESH!
This is an experience I won't ever forget. Seriously.
I meet up with Carlie and some of the kids from the show outside and we all meet at the Denny's for a late night dinner. (the Denny's is just in front of the hotel where we were staying - and the hotel is just a few blocks away from the venue). Before heading to Denny's, Carlie and I head up to our hotel room to drop off our signed stuff and clean up a little. On our way into the front door Carlie leans to me and whispers "hey, isn't that guy...?" And just as she's spotting Charlie, I see Andy...did you hear me, I said I see ANDY, standing, I don't know, two feet away from me near the entrance of the hotel. Yeah, you heard me. He notices me and says "Hey....pregnant girl!?" Cue Shonna's death from squee.
As we all wait for the elevator TOGETHER, Andy and Charlie talk to some people in the lobby and us about the football going on that weekend in Phoenix (the Fiesta Bowl, and other college games). When the elevator arrives we climb in and Charlie looks at me like "what floor?" and I say "3". He doesn't push another one, so clearly we are staying on the same floor of the same hotel. Just...yeah. We are riding up and from inside this little glass elevator you can see a workout room with a jacuzzi and lap pool. Andy turns to us and says "You think we can jump from here?" He raises his eyebrow at us and we bust out laughing. The whole time I'm thinking OMG we are totally goofing around and chatting with ANDY in an elevator in Tempe, Arizona. DUDE. We get off the elevator, with Andy and Charlie turning left and us turning right. Charlie turns one last time and says "are you two stalking us?" and yes, I say "No, personally I think you two are stalking us." He grins, so does Andy, they say goodnight and head to their rooms.
DUDE. Dude. FLAIL. Flaily hands of massive flailyness Yeah.
I don't know if the whole band stayed there. I assume they did. I never saw Charlie or Andy again. I never saw another person associated with FOB again. But trust me, that was enough.
We met the kids at Denny's, and told them what had just happened. I think they peed their collective pants. It was quite amusing.
The rest of the story is boring. We went to bed, headed home on Sunday and I was chillaxing with my doggies and my hubby by 5pm.
Life, it is good.
